SOLAR POWER
The UK government is committed to a 20% reduction
in carbon dioxide emissions (a contributing factor to global warming)
by the year 2020.
The UK heavily relies on natural gas for heating homes,
hot water and cooking food. It is expected that the UK will be importing
most of it natural gas from Europe and Russia by 2010. With this
in mind and the future rising costs it’s now time to consider
installing solar heating systems.
Solar hot water heating systems use renewable energy
from the sun through solar panels or collectors. In most cases this
would work along side your existing convectional water system and
this equates to 50% of your hot water heating bill over a 12 month
period.
There are two main design requirements for installation which
are:
Solar panels and Collectors need to
positioned best practice due south.
But an orientation of between SE and SW is practical.
Heat is transferred from the solar
panels to the hot water store (vented or unvented
hot water cylinder).
